This film poster of James Bond 'Casino Royale' connotes that it is an action film due to hints in the mise en scene. The props used in this film poster is a gun which connotes that the actor is a villian as an illegal weapon is often held in the hands of a criminal. Also, his bow-tie is undone suggesting he does not care about his physical appearance as a bow-tie done is meant to make you look sophisticated. However, another interpretation could be that he is secretly trying to look elegant disguising his undercover job.
Moreover, the fact that he is in front of the actor behind, de-notates that his existence is highly crucial and pays a big part of the film itself. Due to the woman in the back, this connotes that they may have a connection as they are both wearing the same colour clothing yet are distanced from each other. Nevertheless, it may connote the binary opposition between the two. It also seems as if he is walking away from her which highlight the enigma codes to the audience leaving them to wonder what has happened between the two.
The cinematography shows that the image is focused on the two actors as they seem to be the ones notably seen on the front of the image although one seems to be more powerful. The typography is written in white which connotes purity. This then leads the audience to think about what could be pure within this film as it seems to be an action film however could be white for the clarity so it stands out. The 7 is in the shape of a gun which was cleverly thought of as it straight away highlights that the film has got to do with murder.
The background colour of the image is quite dull connoting that it full of mystery due to the lighting not being so bright. Also, even though the main character is seen in the front of the image, this does not necessarily mean that their status is hight because the woman behind is standing on steps which connotes her power against him.
Also, it is a long shot angle suggesting their importance as the full body is shown in the image.
Furthermore, behind the male character, there is a white light which links to the typography connoting his purity. Again, this is enigma codes as the audience is left to figure out where his purity comes on as he is holding a gun. The white light also connotes that he may be the protagonist in the film as it could suggest hope.
This film poster is called 'Gothika' and notably, the genre of the film is a horror. Firstly, the camera shot of this image is a mid shot as we are able to see the woman's shoulders. The main highlight of this film poster is the actors face as the audience are drawn to the expression on her face. We instantly understand her facial expressions seem to be either scared or worried as she is looking directly at the camera. This also shows that she is trying to send a message out to the audience or wants the audience to feel sympathy for her as it looks like she is trying to escape. This is notable as her hands are shown in the picture alongside her feared facial expression.
The lighting is based on her face with high key lighting in the background connoting a horrifying history. Another interpretation of the black background could suggest that she is the villian in the film. Not only does the background seem to be black, but the weather is also shown that is raining which often connotes that something bad is going to happen.
The typography in this film poster looks as if it is glowing which automatically draws attention, wanting the audience to wonder what the word 'Gothika' defines. The font used for the title of the film is written is very unusual font, which looks quite mysterious having the glow as well.
Moreover, there is not much of a variety of colours used in this film poster which makes it look quite dull. This fits in the with the genre as it is a horror film, meaning bright colours are not to be used. Also, the poster is mainly focused on the woman which connotes she is the protagonist in the film.
This film poster is called 'Bride & Prejudice'. The lighting in this poster is focused everywhere which connotes that it has a happy ending due to there being no mysterious hints within the poster. The colours used is quite exciting and captures the audiences attention that it is a film based on adventure and love. The word 'Bride' in the title connotes a marriage, and the fact that the female actor in the image is smiling, suggests a happy marriage.
In the background, the audience can see a variety of colours which may indicate a celebration, linked to the title 'Bride & Prejudice', assuming it is the wedding. You can also see many people in the background wearing bright colours connoting the traditional occasion. However, the word 'Prejudice' creates the ideology that there is conflict between the two families as their nationality might oppose. This creates enigma as the audience is more eager to find out what the problem is between their marriage yet the two actors seem to be happy.
The typography is written in 3 different colours which tend to be quite eye-catching. The angle shot for the two characters are mid shot as their whole bodies aren't shown and their body language shows that they are two very happy characters. Nevertheless, this film may not have a happy ending as the word 'prejudice' interrupts the 'happy ending'.
Furthermore, at the top of the poster, there is mini message to the audience saying 'Bollywood meets Hollywood' which creates effect to the film as the audience wants to find out what happens to their marriage as it is clear that two people from different backgrounds are in love. This message hints out the story line along with the word 'prejudice'.
The audience either have two views: the two families accept that the two are in love or the wedding gets intruded because they come from two different backgrounds. The cinematography is well shown with the bright colours, bold, colourful font & the two actors with delighted facial expressions.
This film is called 'American Gangster' and the genre is Action. The high key lighting in this film poster is used well as it creates enigma to the audience leaving them to wonder who has more power out of the two actors and who is the protagonist.
The mise en scene used in this film shows that the character in front is holding a gun connoting he is the villian through out the film. Also, the actor holding the gun is slightly in front showing that there is a slight difference between the two characters. For instance, they are two both very powerful actors however the one in front has slightly more power also because he is carrying a gun.
The costume also gives it away that the male wearing black is the villain and the male wearing white is either a victim or hero. Also, the male in front comes across as more dominant due to holding the prop and having his shoulder in front.
Moreover, the typography is written in white to show contrast between the black and white. Also, for clarity so it is easier to see. The title of the film links well with the image as the audience assume that the male holding the gun is the 'gangster' which also leads to context. In america, violence was very common and many people used to carry weapons such as guns and knives. Many gangs were involved in crimes competing against each other and always wanting their gang name to have a higher status. This is where the audience understand this and are likely to want to watch the film.
The title is also written in the centre of the poster which grabs the audiences attention, with a red line in between the two words 'american' and 'gangster' which could represent danger, murder and blood.
